The CIVIC (Citizens Involving Volunteers In the Community) Club is a ground root organization formed over some 50 years ago by Mr. T. I. Crudup and others in Sparkman as a community base club. The intent of the club was to work with the entire community to try to keep it nice and clean by neighbors, families and friends helping each others.
The former heads/leaders have passed away and the Civic Club became inactive. We came together to reactivate the Civic Club to keep the dream alive.
The former Civic Club was the owner of the Home Economics/Cafeteria Building and one acre of land surrounding the building and was the first group to purchase part of the STS ground for public use from the former Sparkman School board.
We are now in negotiation with the Harmony Grove School Board (merger) to acquire the remaining property as a Historical Site for the Civic Club/STS Alumni. Our desire is to rebuild on the site or near the site of the former building that burned to the ground this year (2011).
We, at this present time, are filing for a 501c3 (non-profit organization status) and it's our pray that we will be able to obtain it. We will be soliciting the Alumni for your financial support to get the building rebuilded. There have been many discussions over the past years about having a large enough building here on the STS Ground to house our STS Reunion and activities. Also, we are in the process of working to enhance the World War II Memorial/Flag Pole.
The STS Reunion came into existence by Mrs. Pecola (Davis) Anderson and the class of 1961. The next STS Reunion is in 2013. The Class of 1962 (51 years) and the class of 1963 ( 50 years) will be honored.
We hope to have more information in January or February about the status of the property and the building.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Love Always in Christ Jesus,
Charles A. Davies
